Hematology Conference

17 August 2023
Medlab Room, H6.C40

Focusing on apheresis and interpretation of treatment of blood-related diseases, this Hematology Conference provides an opportunity for hematologists and lab professionals to discuss methodologies to help diagnose treatment for leukemia, myasthenia gravis, and other blood disorders.

  • Workshop on apheresis: Peripheral venous access for therapeutic apheresis: Apheresis procedures require adequate vascular access to achieve adequate inlet flow rates. Central dialysis-type catheters are often used in apheresis, despite their multiple risks. Peripheral venous access is a safe and effective option for many patients.  A workshop on evidence-based ultrasound-guided standard for evaluation of peripheral venous access for apheresis procedures will be conducted.
  • Thalassemia: Discussion on regular transfusion of blood, transplantation of bone marrow, iron chelation management, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, stimulation of fetal hemoglobin production, and gene therapy.

Conference Chair: A/Prof Phandee Watanaboonyongcharoen, Medical Director, Department of Laboratory Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand

Key topics:

  • Blood transfusion safety
